Poly Implant Prothese implants, or PIP implants, manufactured by a French company have been recalled. The company was substituting medical-grade silicone for industrial-grade silicone, which can be harmful inside the body and potentially lead to breast cancer. Women who have PIP implants are scared and frantically trying to find a cosmetic surgeon who can replace their implants.

PIP implants were never FDA approved in the United States. There are, however, women that live in Chattanooga, North Georgia and North Alabama that had the surgery outside the United States. At Southern Surgical Arts, cosmetic surgeons Carey Nease, MD, and Chad Deal, MD, have already seen four patients who have these industrial-grade silicone PIP implants. “They are scared,” said Dr. Deal. “And because of the health risk, unfortunately they must have surgery again to replace their implants. In this case they would be replaced with implants manufactured by Allergan or Mentor that only use medical-grade silicone and are FDA approved.” Patients also have the option to choose saline implants instead of silicone.

Unfortunately, there are economic effects on the patient who have PIP implants. Many women realize they have to pay for a surgery again, which is often twice as much as they paid outside the country. Southern Surgical Arts realizes the fear that these women have and its potential harmful effects to them. “Southern Surgical Arts is running a breast augmentation special three days only in March that allows women to take $500 off their surgery and starts at $3,495,” said Tracie Lance, Director of Finance at Southern Surgical Arts.

Although price should never be the determining factor in choosing a cosmetic surgeon, it is often part of the decision making process. Dr. Deal and Dr. Nease are both fellowship trained, board-certified cosmetic surgeons who are both 100% committed, focused, dedicated to cosmetic surgery. Their entire practice provides Face & Neck Lifts, Cosmetic Breast Surgery, Tummy Tucks, Liposuction and SmartLipo, Mommy Makeovers, Vaginal Rejuvenation and other cosmetic procedures and services that can enhance your appearance and improve your self-confidence. “Our patients are excited and eased by the fact that this is entirely our focus. We read, lecture, train other physicians, attend multiple conferences every year and specifically did fellowship training in cosmetic surgery”, says Dr. Nease. This allows our doctors to not only provide the safest care possible but also keep up with the latest trends and technology available to improving one’s appearance.

If you have PIP implants, call the experienced cosmetic surgeons at Southern Surgical Arts today to schedule your complimentary consultation. The surgical procedure usually requires less than one hour in the operating room and is performed at our AAAHC-accredited surgery center in Calhoun, Georgia or Physicians Surgery Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee that is accredited by The Joint Commission.
