As part of Mental Illness Awareness Week 2012: Oct. 7-13, 2012, YouMeBPD.com, an online blog that focuses on Families of those suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder, Bipolar and PTSD, is leading the charge against mental health malpractice. On October 10 (which was labeled World Mental Health Day) Twitter was alive with messages surrounding mental health issues, the stigmas and poor care still effecting the mentally ill. The WHO (World Health Organization) interacted with users using the hash tag #depression to gather feedback surrounding stories and treatment for depression. HealthyPlace poised questions around the stigma linked to mental illness using hash tags #MentalHealth and #mentalillness.

In an election year there is a lot of talk around our healthcare system, but not much of that if any focuses on mental illness. Part of Mental Illness Awareness Week 2012 is to show that even in the year 2012 mental illness is still surrounded by so many stigmas, and because of this there is so much malpractice that goes unreported and/or not taken seriously. Activists and bloggers released articles and blogs that focused on Mental Illness with some authors sending messages to the current presidential administration and/or the republican challengers.
