American Automaker Bests Competitors and Other Iconic Brands

No matter how much colorful fanfare other automakers use to promote their vehicles around national holidays, American consumers perceive Jeep as the most patriotic brand in not just the auto industry, but also the entire country. After recently examining 197 brands on their emotional engagement of consumers when it comes to patriotism, marketing-research firm Brand Keys found that Jeep came out on top, surpassing many marques that sell quintessential American products. The auto brand's strong reputation has been cemented from its service during World War II, as well as its ability to capture the American sense of adventure with its capable vehicles.

Brand Keys designed its study to reveal the brands that have the most inherent patriotic value, meaning they create emotional engagement regardless of the focus of their advertising messages. Jeep earned the No. 1 spot in the firm's top 25 list with an emotional-engagement strength of 98 percent, beating out American icons like Coca Cola, Levi Strauss & Co. and Disney. No other car or truck manufacturer reached the top 10, and Harley-Davidson was the next motor-related brand, landing in ninth place.

"There are older domestic brands on the list, and even products that reach many more U.S. households, but Jeep will always have a special place in the American psyche because of its role in winning World War II," said Tim Parker, dealer principal of Tim Parker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, a Jeep dealer in Arkansas. "That true service to the nation brings a kind of credibility to your company that you can't buy with advertising dollars."

While that positive association applies to Jeep's entire lineup, the best modern representative of the brand's patriotic heritage is the Jeep Wrangler, which evolved from the military Jeep. The first model was produced by Willys-Overland in 1941, and it soon became an essential piece of equipment for American forces fighting in World War II. Following the war, Willys was eventually rebranded as Jeep and the marque continued to improve the civilian version of its signature vehicle, resulting in the contemporary Jeep Wrangler.

Today, new Jeep Wrangler models are equipped with the latest technology and off-roading features, making them much more comfortable and capable than their early predecessors. Bolstered by premium soft-touch materials and an optional Uconnect infotainment system, the refined interior of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler belies the model's impressive performance in rugged conditions. With Tru-Lok locking differentials and the choice of Command-Trac or Rock-Trac four-wheel-drive systems, the Wrangler can negotiate rocky or uneven terrain that could present numerous obstacles for other off-roading vehicles.

"Americans want to have it all in their new vehicle, and the current Jeep Wrangler manages to deliver unmatched capability while keeping drivers comfortable and connected," added Parker. "Though the Wrangler has always had a deep connection with our country, there are a lot more American buyers today that can actually envision themselves behind the wheel of one. That's because the vehicle has evolved into such a complete package."
