This past fall, the redesigned 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class flagship sedan rolled out to dealerships with unprecedented levels of luxury, and soon, buyers will be able to have all that panache in a sportier two-door form. Tapped as a replacement for the outgoing CL-Class, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe was recently revealed ahead of its public debut at the Geneva International Motor Show in March and its on-sale date later this year.
If there was any doubt that the S-Class Coupe could match the extravagance of its sedan sibling, Mercedes-Benz has erased it with the option of 47 Swarovski crystals that accent the headlamps. Elsewhere, the all-new model features swooping design lines like the S-Class Sedan, and its extended roofline, raised beltline and lowered greenhouse are virtually unchanged from the Concept S-Class Coupe that impressed the audience at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Like the new S550 Sedan, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe houses a 4.7-liter V8 engine that churns out 449 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque; however, the car will initially only be available with 4MATIC all-wheel drive.
"The new S-Class Coupe will feature all the incredible performance and advanced amenities found in Mercedes-Benz's flagship sedan, but it's tailored for luxury buyers who like their elegance to have a bit of an edge to it," said James Buckley, general manager of Smith Motor Sales, a Haverhill, MA Mercedes-Benz dealer. "The S-Class Coupe forgoes the buttoned-up designs of other top-of-the-line luxury cars for styling that is as modern as its intuitive technologies."
Buyers of the 2015 S-Class Coupe will be able to opt for Mercedes-Benz's new Magic Body Control technology, which uses a stereo camera to observe the road ahead and then prep the suspension, allowing the vehicle to lean into curves like a motorcyclist or skier might. Safety can also be enhanced with a variety of available Intelligent Drive systems, including Distronic Plus with Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive High-Beam Assist Plus and Night View Assist Plus. Inside the cabin, the S-Class Coupe will come standard with a touchpad interface and a widescreen Thin Film Transistor (TFT) display in the dashboard.
