BEDA (Binge Eating Disorder Association) is holding its annual BED Conference in Denver, Colorado from April 24-26 at the Westin in Downtown Denver. This year’s theme is “Pathways Toward a Paradigm of Health, Body Acceptance, and Quality of Life.” A weekend of workshops, networking, and opportunities to join the BEDA community, the event will be attended by clinicians, researchers, individuals with BED (and their families), advocates, educators and more.

As part of the Denver community, Eating Disorder Center of Denver (EDCD) has long been involved in the annual BED conference. This year, they will be represented by two speakers – Christina Bokenkamp Hruby and Mandy Rubin – both expert clinicians specializing in the field of binge eating disorder recovery. Together they will deliver a unique presentation entitled “At the Crossroads of Pleasure: Binge Eating Disorder and Sexuality.”

Christina Bokenkamp Hruby is the Director of Regional Programs at EDCD, and throughout her ten years of experience, she has been an advocate for issues related to women, primarily focusing on identity, eating disorders, relationships and family. She believes that it is important to help individuals develop a greater sense of acceptance regarding their life experiences.

As Admissions Assessment Clinician at EDCD, Mandy Rubin believes in a collaborative, therapeutic process where individuals with eating disorders can safely encounter, process and challenge aspects of their life. Drawing from several modalities of therapy and years in the field, she considers each person the expert of their own experience.

Recognizing the far-reaching effects of BED as well as the necessity of providing specific psychological treatment, EDCD has developed a specialized BED program that takes patients through a structured 10-week recovery process. The program is controlled, but is also designed to address the unique needs of each patient.
