As the vehicle that kicked off the rise of "four-door coupes" during the past decade, the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class has showed how flowing design lines can transform a traditional sedan, and for the 2015 model year, it will build on that trendsetting styling while receiving drivetrain upgrades. The most significant of those design changes will be found up front, where the 2015 CLS-Class will sport a new chrome diamond radiator grille, standard LED headlights and a restyled bumper with larger air intakes when it goes on sale this fall.
While the 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS550 will continue to house a 402-horsepower 4.6-liter bi-turbo V8 engine, it will be the first CLS to offer an efficient new nine-speed automatic transmission, starting with rear-wheel-drive models. Buyers seeking a more even mix of power and fuel economy will be able to opt for the new 2015 CLS400, which will feature a 3.0-liter bi-turbo V6 engine that produces 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. For those who want to invest purely in performance, the range-topping CLS63 AMG S-Model 4MATIC will be available for the 2015 model year, though Mercedes-Benz has yet to confirm engine-output figures.
"The Mercedes-Benz CLS has been on the market for nearly a decade now, and still no other luxury automaker has been able to come up with a competitor that matches its sleek coupe styling in four-door form," said James Buckley, general manager of Smith Motor Sales, a Haverhill, MA Mercedes-Benz dealer. "The revisions for the 2015 model year will put the CLS even further ahead stylistically while improving performance, fuel efficiency and connectivity."
Inside its well-appointed cabin, the 2015 CLS-Class will boast a redesigned three-spoke sports steering wheel, reconfigured center-console controls and a new eight-inch color display on the dashboard. Buyers of the entry-level CLS400 will benefit from a new Garmin MAP PILOT navigation system with 3D views, while all 2015 CLS models will be newly outfitted with Collision Prevention Assist Plus to help avert rear-end collisions with autonomous braking. Other active-safety features will be optional, including Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Parking Assist with Parktronic, BAS Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, Distronic Plus with Steering Assist, Pre-Safe Brake with pedestrian detection, Pre-Safe Plus and a 360-degree camera.
