NHTSA answers commonly asked questions in an “FAQ” section and posts reports and newsletters. Consumers may sign up for recall alerts by using a NHTSA tool and may check to see if a car is under recall by using the vehicle identification number lookup tool. Finally, if a consumer has a problem with his car and believes it to be related to a mechanical defect, the consumer may file a complaint by using the tools provided.
