ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka is currently ranked at the top of countries which has searched for the word ‘Sex’ according to Google trend tracking data, with francophone Djibouti ranking in top place for the French word ‘Sexe’.
Sri Lanka has beaten Ethiopia which was ranked first for searching for sex in 2020 and 2019, according to Google trends. Vietnam is ranked as the second place while Bangladesh is ranked third.
However if a small country has a large number of a particular search interest, then the result can be amplified based on how the analytics works.
“The answer is Yes and No,” Ishara Shehan Silva an SEO consultant and a web analyst said. “According to data indicated on Google Trends, Sri Lanka is the leading country in the world for the last 12 months. However, if you look at the metric they have used it is “interest by region”.
“This metric clearly mentions that this higher value means a higher proportion of all queries, not a higher absolute query count.
“As an example, a small country like ours where 75% of the queries are for “Sex” will get twice the score of a giant country where only 30% of the queries are for “sex”.
“This could be for porn or for educational purposes as well. Because if you type this word SEX, the search results provided by Google are not Porn-centric, but more for educational and other information”,
Google statics show that the North Central Province has searched the word most.
