Google Says Niche Writing is No Longer Necessary for SEO - Digital Information World

A hallmark of SEO has been to focus on a single niche because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up concentrating your efforts towards a targeted audience. This was suppose to improve search engine rankings for sites, and it worked fairly well with all things having been considered and taken into account. In spite of the fact that this is the case, Google’s Search Liaison Danny Sullivan recently posted a comment on Mastodon that suggests that niche writing is now less important.

According to Sullivan, content writers should focus on making content that caters to their own audience, and that might help them to cover a much more diverse range of topics than might have been the case otherwise. Many SEO writers have been attempting to cater their content to search engine requirements, but Sullivan’s post reveals that this is no longer necessary. Instead, he advised writers to think of their audience as best they can.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that audiences usually don’t care about your niche. They generally judge content based on its own merits, and that can help content writers to diversify and touch on topics that they are interested in but were hesitant to cover for fear of harming their search engine performance.
