A specialist residential care facility, Forest Care Village in Borehamwood, threw open its doors on 13th September with a fun-filled open day. The event warmly welcomed care centre residents' families, friends, and loved ones, as well as members of the community who took the opportunity to learn more about the facility.

The open day was a perfect way to enable those from throughout the local area to experience a newly revamped space following extensive renovation works, with a focus on Hygge-style interiors to create a relaxing, calming and soothing aesthetic in all bedrooms and communal areas.

Celebrating Forest Care Village’s Newly Unveiled Atrium

Part of the much-acclaimed Forest Healthcare network, Forest Care Village provides 24/7 nursing care and dedicated support that extends to palliative, respite, post-operative care and support for adults living with acquired brain injuries.

The open day was structured around introducing loved ones and those who have been involved in the care centre's work over the years to its all-new atrium, a space that is the finishing touch to the centre-wide refurbishment works, which have been rolled out gradually to avoid disruption to residents.

Opened by Mayor Dan Ozarow, the atrium is a soaring double-height area lined with wooden beams and cladding. It features floating shelves displaying flowing plants and vast windows to flood the communal facility with natural light. There are also multiple relaxation areas and quiet reading nooks, and an ever-popular widescreen TV where residents can watch sports, series and movies.

Alongside the chance to have an in-person look at the renovation and learn about the dedicated efforts the Forest Healthcare team has committed to make this possible, visitors were treated to games and activities with a raffle and tombola, cakes and refreshments, a live performance by a guest singer, and goodie bags to thank each person for taking the time to attend.

With a series of images published via the Forest Care Village social media pages, the event has been a resounding success, with the centre full of family members of all ages, helium balloons, and some enthusiastic dancing from the youngest attendees.

The Importance of Introducing Communities to Their Local Care Centres

Momarr Camara, Care Centre Manager of Forest Care Village said, ‘Our open day was a way for us to show our appreciation for everybody who has contributed to the refurbishment, and to ensure anyone in our community who is in touch with the centre, has a loved one who is a resident with us, or is considering their options in terms of residential care can come and see first-hand what we’re all about.

Although we were thrilled to be able to show off the new look centre, which was thoughtfully designed around the needs of our residents, we also wanted to mark the growth of our team and bring everyone together as we look forward to the years to come in our fresh interior.’

The Forest Healthcare group has been awarded numerous awards and accolades for its person-focused approach to residential care, including:

  • Being named a Top 20 Mid-Size Care Home Group at the CareHome.co.uk 2025 Awards

  • Receiving Top 20 Care Home awards for centres in East and Southeast England

  • Achieving Veteran Friendly Framework accreditation across all 13 of the residential and nursing centres in the network

Amanda Scott, Chief Executive Officer from the Forest Healthcare Ltd Head Office noted that, ‘Each one of our care centres is proud to serve the community, and we are always striving to change misconceptions about what residential care is, and what it’s like to live, work or visit our facilities.

Open days are a wonderful way to do that, and ensure that care spaces are welcoming, warm and inclusive, especially for families who may have future care requirements and gain a lot from knowing that Forest Healthcare represents safe centres where everyone is treated as family.’
