Independent authors The Brothers K have announced the forthcoming release of Iron Monsoon, a first-edition war novella that offers a grounded and deeply personal perspective on mechanized warfare. Originally written for the 8Letters Novella Writing Challenge in November 2025, the book is currently undergoing final revisions following its first round of beta-reader feedback.
Set within a devastated megacity, Iron Monsoon tells its story through the letters exchanged between two soldiers fighting on opposing sides of a brutal conflict. Rather than focusing on the commanders or the machines that dominate the battlefield, the novella explores the lives of the individuals forced to survive beneath the shadow of overwhelming military power.
“We wrote Iron Monsoon to explore what war looks like from the ground beneath the machines, beneath the spectacle,” said The Brothers K. “It’s about the people who endure it, who survive it, and how they make sense of something far larger than themselves.”
The release marks a significant milestone for the creative collective. In addition to expanding their literary catalog, The Brothers K have officially welcomed their younger brother, Keane, as a full creative partner. Keane will contribute original illustrations to Iron Monsoon, making his formal debut with the team after previously assisting with story development and cover design for earlier titles, Shadow of the Basilisk and The Dreaming at the Drowned Town.
The announcement comes as the group continues to broaden its reach among local readers. Their first three books, Answering the Human Question, Shadow of the Basilisk, and The Dreaming at the Drowned Town, have recently been consigned to Beachhouse Cafe, an independent bookstore in Kapitolyo, Pasig City. The authors are also pursuing partnerships with additional independent bookstores across the Philippines.
The Brothers K are also set to participate in the Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) 2026, scheduled for September 9–13 at the SMX Convention Center Manila. Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to meet the authors; explore their growing catalog, including Answering the Human Question, Shadow of the Basilisk, and The Dreaming at the Drowned Town; and get an early look at the upcoming release of Iron Monsoon. Their participation underscores the group's commitment to connecting directly with readers and supporting the vibrant Philippine literary community.
