Since debuting for the 2005 model year, the Buick LaCrosse has become a mainstay of the marque's lineup, but as the luxury auto brand courts younger buyers, the sedan must evolve to keep up with its increasingly popular Verano and Enclave brethren. Enter the revamped 2014 LaCrosse, which was introduced at the New York International Auto Show on March 29. Sporting a fresh exterior design, improved interior comfort and advanced technology, the LaCrosse is poised to remain Buick's best-seller after the new model goes on sale this summer.

Outside, the 2014 Buick LaCrosse features a more sculpted exterior, with a larger and more aggressive waterfall grille, swept-back LED daytime running lights and sleek design lines. Under the hood, the powertrains carry over from the current model, including a standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with eAssist and an optional 3.6-liter direct-injected V6 that generates 304 horsepower. Meanwhile, active-safety features have been added, including Side Blind Zone Alert, Lane Change Alert, Forward Collision Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Automatic Collision Preparation, all of which work to warn the driver about potential crashes with seat vibrations.

"It is imperative that the LaCrosse have a contemporary design and the latest technology if Buick wants to keep attracting a new generation of fans," said Bo Hendrick, general sales manager of Waterville, ME Buick dealer Central Maine Motors. "Buyers who want an incredibly quiet cabin and intuitive connectivity will love the new LaCrosse once they get behind the wheel, but the bolder exterior is what will entice them to open the door in the first place."

Inside the cabin, the 2014 LaCrosse comes standard with Buick's QuietTuning technology, which absorbs and blocks unwanted noise caused by wind and the road below. Drivers won't feel completely isolated from the outside world, however, thanks to the next-gen IntelliLink infotainment system, which enables hands-free phone calls, audio streaming and available navigation. Additionally, an all-new Ultra Luxury Interior Package features wood-trim décor and semi-aniline leather seats for an even more premium experience.

The new LaCrosse wasn't the only Buick to take the spotlight in New York, as the 2014 Buick Regal also made its debut at the auto show. Designed to be a sportier iteration of its midsize sedan, Buick's refreshed Regal will come with a more modern front fascia and a redesigned instrument panel when it rolls into dealerships this fall. A new 259-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine will be shared by the Regal Turbo and Regal GS, leading to a 39-horsepower increase in the Turbo and a slight 11-horsepower decrease in the GS that should be accompanied by a boost in fuel economy.

"With the instability of gas prices across the country, even luxury customers are factoring in fuel economy when they're shopping for a new model," added Hendrick. "The new turbocharged engine in the Regal Turbo and GS will give them that efficiency without losing the refinement Buick is known for, and that combination should appeal to drivers from any generation."
