When it comes to seeking the most family-friendly vehicle on the market, Parents magazine and Edmunds.com contend that there is no one-size-fits-all solution for buyers, but they did recently approve two very different Honda models for domestic duty. Both the 2014 Honda Accord midsize sedan and the 2014 Honda Odyssey minivan landed on the publications' 10 Best Family Cars for 2014 list.

Dubbed one of the Best Sedans, the 2014 Accord was lauded by Parents and Edmunds.com editors for its spacious and sophisticated cabin that is outfitted with standard features like Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control and a rearview camera. Also noted were the sedan's useful active-safety technology options, including Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and the Honda LaneWatch passenger-side blind-spot camera. While the Accord frees up extra money for diapers and groceries by returning up to 36 mpg on the highway, Parents and Edmunds.com were just as impressed by the responsiveness of its base 185-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine.

"The key to choosing the right vehicle for your family is finding one that has all the functionality you need as a parent while still engaging you as a driver, and the Accord and Odyssey both accomplish that," said Jason LaCroix, general manager of AutoFair Honda, a New Hampshire Honda dealer in Manchester. "They offer nimble, fuel-efficient rides while providing a range of modern features that will keep the entire family entertained and safe."

Though a minivan may be an obvious choice for family transport, Parents and Edmunds.com named the up-to-eight-passenger Honda Odyssey their Best Minivan because it drives and conserves fuel like a much smaller vehicle. Netting up to 28 mpg on the highway, the Odyssey saves parents cash at the gas pump while featuring plenty of versatility, including a One-Motion 60/40 Split 3rd Row Magic Seat that can be fully stowed in the rear to create space for larger items like strollers. In addition to coming with Bluetooth connectivity and a rearview camera while offering the same available active-safety features found on the Accord, Honda's minivan also boasts clever child-ready options like a built-in HondaVAC vacuum for cleaning up cereal crumbs and a cool box in the lower part of the center stack that can keep juice boxes chilled.
