Summer season is almost here; well, if you live in the north anyway, a nationwide chlorine shortage could make it much more expensive than ever. One pool industry insider calls it snowmageddon

Experts Blame This Squeeze on A Few Factors

First, the pandemic - as more Americans stayed home last year, demand for backyard swimming pools skyrocketed, and that boom created an even greater need for chlorine.

Second, there was a chemical plant fire in lake Charles Louisiana; one of the nation's largest suppliers of chlorine tablets- burned last year when hurricane Laura hit the gulf coast. So what does this shortage mean for pool owners and pool lovers to see the shining sea?

The worst chlorine shortage in the country has ever seen is set to rock the summer pool season.

It's been a concern for us in Rockwall, Texas.

What Pool Owners are Saying.

Cody sulfur has never seen anything like it. In the 17 years, he's running his business, he's traveled far and wide in search of chlorine and other supplies, and he has been to about six states and about 15 cities in Howell, Michigan.

Allen Curtis has been in the business for 34 years; this is the first time he's stockpiling chlorine. We started buying early way early and stockpiled as much as we could. We will last more than probably mid-may or late May, and we'll be out of chlorine.

It's a chlorine crisis, says Rudy sang; He has worked in the industry for 30 years and rides for pool pro magazine.

A lot of people are not going to be able to find the chlorine tablets that they need this season; analysts say it's getting worse chlorine prices are set to soar 70 percent this summer in some parts of the country.

Chlorine Prices Have Doubled

Prices have already doubled, and experts say there won't be enough of the chemical to go around. A typical 50-pound bucket of chlorine would run anywhere from 75 to 85 dollars within the last year. It increased to a hundred and forty with the proposed price of a hundred and fifty-eight dollars.

From Chlorine to SALT

One alternative owner is considering saving money converting a pool from chlorine to salt, and it worked; it's better for us for our skin for our hair.

Saltwater Pool Maintenance Cost

Experts say converting to a saltwater pool is not difficult; it requires a small unit and electrical work, but depending on the market, it could cost two thousand dollars. The only problem with converting the saltwater is getting your hands on a saltwater system.

Everything has gone in high demand, so what advice do experts have for Americans who want to take a dip.

No Pets Please

People are going to have to get smart with how they use their pools and not let pets in the pool; a dog in a pool is equivalent to 50 people swimming in that pool.

Here is How you can Cut-Down 50% of Chlorine Usage

Frequent water changes help miss the mineral packs as an addition to your normal chemicals. They cut down on chlorine use up to 50 percent. If you're worried about how the shortage will impact public pools, these families need to be aware when they're going to those public swimming pools that they've been inspected by city inspectors and they're sanitized properly for our viewers at home who own a pool.

Contact Your Local Pool Professionals

Experts say to contact your local pool professional to discuss chlorine alternatives from mineral packs to UV and saltwater systems.
