Company Sage, a legal technology firm headquartered in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has expanded its business compliance platform to operate across all 50 United States, bringing its entity formation services to a larger number of small businesses.

Company Sage is a self-funded family-owned company, and it specializes in serving small businesses, instead of venture capital investors. Many investors' and tech start-ups' ideas of what products need to be offered are not necessarily in the best interest of small businesses, and Company Sage says its business is attorney-driven, rather than investor-driven. The company reports that it serves Main Street, instead of Wall Street.

Company Sage provides the technology for brands under its umbrella, such as Wyoming LLC Attorney, Colorado LLC Attorney, Cindy's New Mexico, Cindy's Florida, and Cloud Peak Law. Its easy-to-use platform allows small businesses to operate more efficiently and confidently, by ensuring compliance.

According to CEO, Andrew Pierce, Company Sage's platform provides an “assisted DIY” approach to forming limited liability companies (LLCs) and other business entities. This allows smaller businesses to afford the services, which would be otherwise more expensive if the business owner engaged an attorney or law firm the traditional way. It also ensures that the business entities being formed are compliant with all relevant laws. These details may be overlooked when taking the do-it-yourself approach, leading to legal exposures for the business.

By operating in all 50 states, Company Sage will be able to assist small businesses that want to expand into other states, due to differing privacy regulations among states. Traditional attorneys, which are usually more expensive, are also not as technologically sophisticated and require a lot of back-and-forth and manual labor. Company Sage's clients do not speak to an attorney to use the legal services, but the filings are still overseen by an attorney. Using technology can drive down the cost of legal services and provide access to more people.

“Everyone in the United States, including small business owners, have a right to privacy. Financial institutions and the IRS may need to know who exactly owns the company, but the rest of the world generally does not need to know. That's the whole idea of the limited liability that's built in an LLC. We have been providing that to our clients with our 50-state expansion, so they can have that privacy that's constitutionally guaranteed, and a higher level of asset protection by working with us,” Pierce says.

“We're a family-owned company that understands the struggles of small businesses and tries to do what's right for them. While Wall Street-backed firms put together nice websites and shiny marketing, they don't really know what's going on about the bread and butter issues for small businesses. We are democratizing asset protection and doing it in a way that is professionally or lawyer-driven.”
