Supermix, a content creation agency cofounded by Xavier English and Zac Goodsir, has unveiled the AI tools it utilizes to scale podcast content.

Podcast content creation agency Supermix has created an all-in-one, AI-powered solution for operating and growing a podcast, allowing users to quickly create scaleable content for social media, helping their podcast attract more listeners.

According to Supermix co-founder Xavier English, its platform uses AI tools for two main processes. The first is to turn long-form video, often shot in a landscape or horizontal orientation, and turn it into short videos in a portrait or vertical orientation, which is optimized for popular short-form social media video platforms. Because video subjects in horizontal videos often move around, the tool uses AI to automatically reframe the video and keep it focused on the point of interest. While this can be done manually, it takes a huge amount of time and effort to do so, especially for longer video podcasts that can last up to 3 hours. Supermix allows users to drag and drop their horizontal video and it gets automatically converted to a focused vertical format in a single step.

“There's a nearly infinite amount of content stuck in a horizontal format that doesn't get converted to vertical because of the huge time and effort investment needed. We built this tool to do it automatically, instead of having a human editor spend hours just to track a subject across a video. This makes it less costly for creators to chop up their content into bite-sized pieces, giving them more resources to keep creating more podcasts,” English says.

The second major use of AI in the process involves converting long-form audio content, helping find the most interesting parts of the conversation, and highlighting them. This allows Supermix to find all the moments that they believe can be picked up by social media algorithms, which will then catch the public's attention and drive more listeners to the podcast. According to Xavier “This use of AI is only the beginning of an industry-wide implementation, represents an early version of tools that will greatly enable content scaling.”

“The AI identifies various points in the podcast where there's something interesting being discussed and flags them, making it really easy for us and the creators to identify. We can then click each moment and use our experience in content creation to decide which ones will do best on social media.”

Xavier identified an opportunity for the use of AI to further remove barriers from creators’ workflow. Supermix also looks at their client's content and repurposes it, creating scripts for short videos. It uses AI to write the script, mimic the creator's voice, and help an animator to create visuals to accompany the audio. It can also use AI to enhance the audio and smooth over any patches with bad audio recording.

“Let's say the client doesn't want to write a script or do voiceovers because those are really time-consuming tasks. We use AI to help us write scripts faster because we can feed it the client's content and it will summarize it as a script for a 1-minute video. The AI does a pretty good job, and then we adjust it to make it better. We also use an AI tool where we feed it with one hour of the client speaking, and then we can have it read out the script we created using the client's voice.”

According to English, “Supermix's AI tools greatly speed up the process of creating a podcast, making it more accessible to a wider market.” When working with Fortune 500 companies he noticed the significant operational needs that were making content creation so time-consuming and a need for tools to remove barriers in the process. He likens it to the growth in popularity of newsletters, which were previously complicated to produce but are now quite common due to various tools that automate most of the process.

“Supermix's motto is You record, we do the rest – and it's really that simple. Clients can come to us with an hour of recorded audio or video, and we'll give them 10 short-form clips of their podcast containing the bits that can get people on social media to notice them. All these can be accomplished in just a short amount of time, which allows creators to focus more on what they're good at, which is producing content.”
