Alpa Patel, founder of 1+1 is seeking partners to make a pledge to the 17 Global Goals.

Patel’s goal is to have entrepreneurs pledge 1% of their total yearly income into one of the 17 Global Goals. Companies and individuals can achieve this through a link for pledges on the 1+1 webpage. The pledge has become known as the One Movement. The 17 Global Goals are an agreed upon plan by world leaders of the United Nations to create a more sustainable, greener, and equitable world by 2030.

Patel says governmental leaders around the world can not do this alone; they need support from business leaders all around the world to realize the 17 Global Goals, working together as one.

She says investments into populations suffering from poverty will create a vast amount of wealthy and educated citizens. These people will then be positioned to work better jobs with higher salaries that enable them to enter the market and increase consumer purchasing in basic necessities along with recreational spending. This in turn will build and create stronger communities and marketplaces that will lift people out of poverty.

According to Patel, when entrepreneurs invest in alleviating poverty they are not only helping people, but bringing more profits to the corporation. She says there are many nonprofits and NGOs in the world with the purpose of building a better future for people and our planet. Patel says money invested by entrepreneurs could be the key to reaching the 17 Global Goals by 2030.

The One Movement does not take in any money but is designed to bring awareness to the 17 Global Goals and get everyone behind them. These Goals can be supported by investments that can tackle some of the world’s largest problems such as poverty, hunger, and climate change. Patel believes businesses can operate from a greater consciousness and serve people, the planet, and profits.

Patel’s goal for the One Movement has been her dream since she was 29 years-old. She hopes to have 40,000 CEOs make the pledge to invest 1% of their yearly earnings to one or more of the 17 Global Goals.

“As entrepreneurs, we need to understand that investing in the bottom 1 billion people that are struggling for their next meal is also good for our own wallets,” says Patel. “This can be accomplished by investing in nonprofits and NGOs that are already on the ground working at scale to realize these Global Goals so we can live in a more prosperous world. I want entrepreneurs to realize that by investing in these goals they are also investing in themselves, their business, and their pocketbook. Investing in the bottom 1 billion people gives them the opportunity to build a stronger economy.”
