The first phase of the nine steps to operational excellence is where Faro Partners helps businesses identify and define their purpose and objective, identify the processes and people involved, and then define how their success can be measured.

At this critical stage, communication is key, Penn points out. Of the dozens of training programs Faro Partners has organized for businesses adopting the ‘9 Steps to Operational Excellence’, Penn says a recurring issue has been their inability to define and communicate the core problems that they want to be resolved.

“I always love to ask these companies, how many times have you solved the same problem? Another integral part of the nine-step process is establishing a communication channel where all stakeholders can conduct regular and frequent conversations about their core problems and conduct accountability audits, says Penn. And as the organization-wide transformation begins to take shape, the nine-step approach allows the company to adjust the frequency of these activities as appropriate. The final step is to consolidate the findings in a document, communicating the completion of the goal, and closing the loop.
