Founder of the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute, Dr. Pat Ogden, has been confirmed as a keynote speaker at the forthcoming 35th Annual Boston International Trauma Conference hosted by Bessel van der Kolk’s Trauma Resource Foundation – the event will run from May 1st until May 4th.

The conference welcomes both virtual and in-person attendees, with ticketed attendance only. Those participating in person are invited to a new venue for 2024, hosted at the Sheraton Hotel in Boston for the duration of the four-day event.

Bessel van der Kolk says, "I’m delighted to share that Pat Ogden, PhD will be joining us at this year’s Trauma Conference to deliver ‘Divided Mind, Divided Body: Parts work through the lens of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy’.

As a pioneer in somatic psychology, Dr. Ogden is featured in ‘The Body Keeps the Score’ for her work on Sensorimotor Psychotherapy – which helped our field to understand the link between the way that people move and use their bodies, and how their bodies communicate to them internally.

Her compelling keynote will explore the challenges, risks, and rewards of working somatically with internal parts of the self, particularly with complex trauma. With an early focus on yoga – an area that has been amplified significantly in the past decade – we’ll also be running some pre-conference workshops that are particularly relevant to Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear Dr. Ogden’s insights for yourself."

Professional Learning Opportunities and Networking at the Boston International Trauma Conference

Throughout the conference, attendees will benefit from presentations, workshops, and discussions led by over 40 of the most renowned trauma experts from around the world, who offer expertise and knowledge about ways to understand and treat trauma.

Dr. Ogden, PhD, joins this body of professional expertise as a leading scholar and educational voice in the modality of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a type of somatic psychological treatment process that is targeted to trauma-related behaviors, emotional responses, and movement patterns.

As a lecturer, consultant, clinician, and author of works including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy: Interventions for Trauma and Attachment, Trauma and the Body: A Sensorimotor Approach to Psychotherapy, The Pocket Guide to Sensorimotor Psychotherapy in Context, and the recently published Body of Knowledge Card Deck, Dr. Ogden’s next book will be on Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for Children, Adolescents and Families, with Dr. Bonnie Goldstein.

Dr. Ogden will present Divided Mind, Divided Body: Parts Work Through the Lens of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy on Friday, May 3, from 11.20 to 12.20 pm EDT. This innovative keynote will illustrate how dissociative parts related to complex trauma can be identified by observing clients' movement patterns. Interventions that draw on the body to heal the wounds of complex trauma will be illustrated with video footage of therapy sessions. The keynote speech will be followed by a panel discussion and questions.

Introducing Sensorimotor Psychotherapy to International Trauma Therapists and Professionals

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) is a therapeutic modality designed to assist with the treatment and management of trauma and attachment issues. SP blends theory and technique from traditional talk therapies with straightforward somatic interventions to address how the body carries the legacy of trauma and attachment inadequacies. A strength of SP is its focus on capitalizing on the natural intelligence of the body to help people heal from the debilitating effects of trauma.

Alongside her attendance at the conference in May, Dr. Ogden presents numerous webcasts and digital seminars, with many any-time access programs available on-demand from the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute’s educational calendar.

Dr. Ogden says, ‘I am delighted to be participating once again in the Boston International Trauma Conference! These conferences are always cutting-edge, featuring diverse presenters, experiential workshops and the latest research. The conference fosters a positive, collaborative, and thought-sharing environment where clinicians and researchers come together to share their work and findings.

The Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute is an international educational organization that provides accessible trauma training, services, and resources for mental health practitioners and other interested parties keen to learn more about trauma, somatic therapies, and ways to harness the wisdom of the body.

Many of the Institute's principles are well aligned with the key objectives of the International Trauma Conference, making Dr. Ogden's keynote speech a cohesive inclusion in a packed program of events.
