The Optimistic BA, a business analysis company, is celebrating its fifth anniversary of changing the leadership landscape with positive thinking. Founded by Judy Alter in 2019, the company empowers business leaders to foster a healthy work environment by implementing the “Glass Half Full” mindset. Known for her unique zest and optimistic approach to life, Judy remains steadfast in her mission to reshape the mindset of business leaders in dealing with stressful situations and building relationships with their team members.
For over 35 years, Judy was a senior business analyst in one of the biggest insurance and financial product companies in the United States. She was also a member of the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) and held a volunteer position with the Global Chapter Council. After a successful career in corporate America, Judy decided to retire and focus on her work in the IIBA organization.
“My venture into Business analysis came from a demotion in my previous career. It’s funny looking back on the demotion as if it hadn't happened, I wouldn’t be doing what I love doing now. I’ve always looked at the positive side of things and this situation just highlights that further. The Optimistic BA is my testament that there are great new beginnings within every disappointment and heartbreak,” Judy shares.
Judy built The Optimistic BA, an independent business analysis company, to spearhead the Glass Half Full mindset in the workplace. This proprietary framework hinges on cultivating a positive outlook toward challenges. Judy was still building the company as COVID-19 began affecting the US, which severely derailed her plans to conduct in-person speaking engagements. However, Judy was agile with digital innovation and quickly began hosting events and providing consultancy services virtually. She slowly multiplied her client base, going from one person to multiple high-profile organizations.
However, the barriers blocking Judy didn’t end with the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, her health rapidly declined, as she had to fight for her life undergoing multiple major life-threatening surgeries. All of this happened in the early stages of company development. According to Judy, her optimism was one of the biggest factors that helped her heal both physically and mentally.
Judy’s ability to maintain unwavering positivity throughout some of the darkest moments in her life strengthened her belief in the Glass Half Full mindset. She believes that through The Optimistic BA, she can encourage more business leaders and individuals to adopt the same practice.
Once Judy was able to resume her operations at The Optimistic BA, she received multiple invitations to speaking engagements including those with the IIBA. In fact, the IIBA Chapter Manager, Danelkis Serra, attended one of Judy’s speaking engagements and believes that the Glass Half Full framework has pushed her to become a better person professionally and personally.
“Life is not a dance rehearsal where you can hit pause and start from the top,” Judy shares. “There are no do-overs in life and after being so close to death, I truly understand the power of this statement. It’s my life’s mission to make an impact in the lives of others through The Optimistic BA’s advocacy of applying the Glass Half Full mindset.”
Judy is currently writing a book inspired by her experiences overcoming obstacles with positive thinking. She hopes this upcoming release will become a guidebook for business leaders to support employees and corporate objectives.
