Florida-based pest control startup INZECTO has been given several awards for its patented, eco-conscious technology. The company was selected as one of the Top 20 University Start-Ups in 2019 and a finalist for the 2019 Financial Times and World Bank Transformational Business Awards in the health, wellness, and disease prevention category. INZECTO’s unique pest control methodologies were also a Cade Prize finalist. The company’s admirable accomplishments stem from intensive research and development. INZECTO developed its technology alongside the University of Florida’s Entomology Department, ranked number one in the world. The company’s innovations were partially funded by grants from the Pentagon’s Deployed Warfighter Protection Program. As INZECTO nears its fifth anniversary, the company is committed to bringing eco-friendly, scientifically proven solutions to the market.

Considered the ‘world’s deadliest animal’ by the CDC, mosquitoes kill more people than any other creature globally through the spread of diseases like malaria, dengue, and West Nile fever. The World Health Organization even reported that between 100 to 400 million infections of dengue occur each year. Highlighting the necessity for INZECTO’s products which specifically target the mosquito species carrying such disease. Over 3,700 mosquito species exist, but not all of them are vectors that transmit germs. Despite the ongoing impact mosquitoes have globally on human health, few scientific breakthroughs have enabled the development of effective solutions. Most products on the market fail to kill several stages of mosquitoes in their life cycle, exclusively targeting adults and neglecting millions of eggs and larvae that will soon be able to infect.

INZECTO was co-founded by Enrico Levi, an Italian businessman, innovator, and founder of Florida Insect Control Group. Under his leadership, the company was able to develop its technology in partnership with the University of Florida. Through an abundance of scientific research, INZECTO has proven that its products can significantly reduce mosquito populations by targeting female vector carriers. This accomplishment was highlighted in a year-long study in the small village of Monte Verde, Honduras where INZECTO and leading American charity Operation Blessing placed the company’s Larvicidal Mosquito Chips into pilas, drums, and buckets to fight zika, dengue, and chikungunya infections. A village that was once plagued by mosquitoes experienced zero cases of all three diseases, seemingly eradicating a problem that was very visible in a nearby area. A similar village reported 71 cases of dengue, 3 zika, and 1 chikungunya in the same year. These findings highlight the unprecedented efficacy of INZECTO’s products and underline potential use cases in some of the most vulnerable communities globally.

INZECTO serves professional pest control companies and government agencies responsible for the control of infectious diseases. The business has doubled revenue multiple years in a row due to the growing demand for eco-friendly, effective mosquito treatments like INZECTO’s. The company’s products are extremely safe to use and can be combined with traditional insecticides. INZECTO’s products are ideal for urban environments, but also applicable in rural environments as seen in the Honduras case study.

With its patented technology, INZECTO is pioneering innovation in the pest control industry. The company will contribute significantly to scientific research on mosquito population control and simplify the lives of millions worldwide.
