Ashton Closner was inspired to found Maverick Advantage by the massive gaps in knowledge he observed as an IT entrepreneur and during his career in trust services. When Ashton chose to sell his companies in 2014 in an effort to dedicate more time to his passions, none of the financial advisors he met with made him feel secure about sustaining the legacy he had worked so hard to build. “The experience was a series of canned responses towards investing in the same few corporations,” he recalls. “The gist of their suggestions was: no risk and very, very low returns.”

As a result, he spent two years of research, trial, and error to come up with a simple solution to protect his life’s work. Afterward, he worked as a contractor for a nationwide trust service and rarely was able to work with the same client more than once. Yet, he again realized that his strategies were far more successful than those of his peers. “I took all that knowledge and experience and opened Maverick Advantage Solutions to develop assets for clients on a very individual, intentional basis.”

Growing up, Ashton modeled his principles from his uniquely generous parents. “I was raised in a military home. My mother was incredibly service-oriented and kind, and my father was a two-star general. Because of this, I get a lot of personal satisfaction out of helping people to better their lives.” His passion for good service and his expertise in his field are key to Maverick Advantage’s accessibility and success.

“There’s a very clear, simple path to protecting your legacy if you know where to look,” Ashton notes. But that is precisely the difficulty that Maverick Advantage’s clients come to him with. “It’s what the ultra-wealthy have always done to stay wealthy through their generations. But middle- and working-class individuals are never taught that. That’s where I come in.” Maverick Advantage aims to enable clients to take control back and enjoy their time after their careers.

He bridges the previously wide estate and retirement planning gap between different sections of society. First, he educates clients on how to make their assets last through their and their loved ones’ lifetimes. Then, he makes sure these assets go exactly where they need to go – “Without confusion, without risk,” Ashton says. The third and final piece of the puzzle is in keeping this process debt-free. ‘Wealth hacks,’ such as how to pay off debt quickly and how to budget, are an essential component of his services, empowering his clients to protect their futures.

Additionally, in partnership with AffordaCare Insurance, Maverick Advantage specializes in providing health insurance to businesses with over 20 employees with zero copays and significant tax breaks that roll back onto employer revenue and employee paychecks.

Though Ashton is not technically retired, his ethos is to practice what he preaches. His company is designed toward structured and deep service to his clients. Instead of the 100-hour work weeks he was used to as an entrepreneur and contractor, he schedules appointments based on need. “My job is to teach people how to have a stress-free retirement through a consistent passive income. It only makes sense if I do the same. I’m not here to make millions; I’m here to help people who are in similar situations to what I found myself in,” he explains.

Ashton purposefully structured his company away from typical financial advice services. Instead, he opened a space in this sector where both safety and guaranteed returns are the priority.
