Men are growing more and more enthusiastic about cosmetic surgery. They still may not tell their tennis or beer buddies, but they are having it done.

In 2012, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reported men had almost 1 million of the 10 million overall surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures performed in the United States. That’s 10% of all cosmetic procedures, a 106% increase from 1997. This reflects a desire to take their appearances and how they reflect themselves to the world into their own hands.

“When you look better, you feel better,” said Dr. Jeffrey Colton, MD, a double board certified facial plastic surgeon with over 30 years in the practice and thousands of successful procedures performed. “And when you feel better, you do better.”

This has proven particularly true in the workplace and confirmed by a study from the University of Texas that found good-looking people earn an average of 3-4% more each year, land promotions faster, and get hired quicker. To keep a competitive edge in the workplace, many men are opting for cosmetic procedures, especially since new technologies as less invasive and the procedures have become quicker, safer, and more discrete.

Unfortunately, the only thing many physicians are doing to serve these men coming into their office in rising numbers is to put a few issues of Sports Illustrated in the waiting room. Many of the procedures that are now popular among men have been designed particularly with women and female features in mind and look alarmingly out of place on men.

Under the guidance of Dr. Colton, the Colton Center is the only center in Michigan that focuses on the cosmetic needs of men. In fact, many of his trademark procedures have been named based on comments made to him directly by his patients.

Over the years, Dr. Colton’s techniques have evolved to be unique to the Colton Center. His gentle demeanor, skill, and experience in the practice have made countless people—men and women—happy with their faces and in consequence improved their lives.

“Doctor Colton’s kind and gentle demeanor soon had me at ease,” said Linda, a patient of Dr. Colton who came to him after a traumatizing experience with a botched Blepharoplasty at another center. “He took the time to truly listen to my concerns and clearly outlined what his course of action was going to be. Everything went beautifully! I get compliments from friends to physicians with regard to how great my eyes look.”
