LONDON, United Kingdom, 10/22/2022 / SubmitMyPR /

When we hear about polluted ground and coasts, there is often a sad picture. Thousands cubic meters of garbage cover the seabed spreading further throughout the coastal zone, and the number is increasing every day.

In addition to tourism, shipping and fishing are the main causes of waste pollution. The ecological effects of plastic waste and marine debris are devastating. Since there are many different types of garbage, the impact of each is different, for instance:

  • plastic breaks down into small pieces, which are then swallowed by animals leading to their death.

  • some types of plastic also break down into bisphenol A (BPA), which is structurally similar to estrogen and can disrupt hormone balance.

  • garbage causes disorders of the nervous system and malformations in marine invertebrate embryos.

A current estimate of the global input of plastic waste into the oceans is between 4.8 and 12.7 million tons per year. That is equivalent to one truckload per minute. Only a small part of the plastic waste floats on the surface, the rest is transported to deeper waters or to the seabed and can hardly be retrieved. According to estimates, around 80 million tons have currently accumulated there. It costs the world up to $2.5 trillion a year. The ratio between potential loss from tourism due to garbage and benefits received through its elimination is astounding: $414 million loss vs $217 million revenue based on the US research.

There are many approaches of solving this problem, such as changing people’s behavior, creating environment protection laws, applying tractor-towed solutions, using less plastic from the start, especially when it comes to packaging. Still, they are either in theory, or not sufficiently applied. Rubbish needs to be disposed of or recycled appropriately right now. The action must be taken immediately.

With this in mind, our team at BY-Technologies took this challenge and launched our BY Robbot startup project in November 2019 (Startup Accelerator 11.2019 – 08.2020 (HUB Eilat)). We have developed an autonomous eco-friendly multifunctional robot for cleaning various public and private areas from garbage, including coastal and park areas, beaches, etc. The robot is modular and fully automatic, which means it does not require human involvement in the process of work performance.

BY Robbot is currently under development, but the initial prototype was created and tested back in August 2021. You can check the information about it on our website. On the 30th of August, 2021, the startup was presented in Ashdod at “Climate Launchpad 2021 Israel finals”. On March-April 2022, BY Robbot participated in “Rhode Island-Israel BlueTech Startup Competition”. And we reached the finals! For more information, you can check the official website to learn the details of the competition.

What is BY Robbot able to do today?

  • Clean garbage during visitation hours acting like i-robot in open environment.

  • Work autonomously without human involvement.

What are our short-term plans?

  • Implementation of garbage sorting. For example, corals on the beach are not garbage, so BY Robbot will not pick them up.

  • Cleaning up areas contaminated with oil or other chemicals.

  • Differentiation of organic ecosystem from garbage.

At BY-Technologies, we truly believe that humanity has all the resources to save our planet instead of replacing it with the new ones. Thus, we need to strive to preserve the original beauty and purity of our HOME – our native planet – TOGETHER. With your contribution, we can grow into a bigger project to implement various global initiatives helping government bodies and local services to preserve our nature. Invest in your future with BY Robbot!
